Places to go in Veliko Tarnovo

The town of Veliko Tarnovo is the ancient capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Due to its stunning beauty and grandeur it was compared even to Constantinople. During the Bulgarian Revival Period the town was a lively centre of enlightenment and trade. Today Veliko Turnovo has preserved much of its ambiance and is an important cultural centre of immense historical significance. The specific atmosphere of Veliko Tarnovo is created by the unusual location of the houses one above the other on the steep slopes of four hills. The Tsarevets and the Trapezica hills are the main tourist attractions in Veliko Tarnovo. There you can have a walk through the remnants ancient fortresses, see the Royal Palaces, the Patriarchal Church and the Bauldouin tower in which the Latin Emperor Bauldouin found his death. The foundations of a large number of mediaeval churches have been discovered on the Trapezitsa hill. “The Sound and Light Show” is a breath-taking audio-visual spectacle with illumination of the fortress on the Tsarevets hill on a dramatic musical background.

Only 60 SPA hotels will remain in Bulgaria

13.05.2013

Nearly 200 hotels will be no longer called SPA once the new legislation for SPA hotels becomes effective. The new requirements can be met by around 60 SPA hotels in Bulgaria. Currently only 7 out of 260 SPA hotels are certified upon the standards of the European SPA Association. To comply with the these requirements, hotels should have an indoor or outdoor swimming pool, as well as a SPA centre. Wellness hotels should have a room for hydromassage procedures, Turkish or steam bath, sauna or Infrared cabin, as well as a relax zone in their beauty salons.

All personnel in SPA centers should meet specific qualification criteria. For example, masseurs are required to have a licensed university diploma. The purpose of the new licensing and legislation is to improve the quality of SPA services in Bulgarian SPA and wellness hotels in order to keep Bulgarian and foreign tourists satisfied.
